WWWP 5K Challenge… done!

WordPress has invited bloggers all around the world to unite this week for a 5K run/walk.  This is obviously a virtual event (awww, no bling?!), and you can complete this fun little challenge from Oct 26 to Nov 1.  I completed it today and couldn’t have picked a better day to do it!  The sun was shining, I had to wear shorts, and not a drop of rain in sight!

For those who don’t know, I live in Lake Stevens, Washington… kinda near Seattle but a bit more north… otherwise known as the Pacific Northwest.  It usually rains here quite a bit, especially this time of year. However, thanks to El Nino, the weather is going to be extremely mild this winter… less rain and no snow.  Hence, today was a perfect day to do a 5K.

Most of you already know that I’m a slow runner… I like to lollygag and take pictures and walk as much as I possibly can.  Regardless… here are my results, courtesy of the Nike+ running app:

wpid-screenshot_2015-10-27-16-05-58.png You’ll see in the bottom right corner it says 6.13 mi.  That mileage is actually for my shoes.  My wonderful husband, The Motivator, gifted me with a new pair of running shoes this past week for my upcoming half in January.  They’re the Brooks Launch 2 and this was my second run in them.  So far, so good!  They’ll be broken in slowly to avoid any potential mishaps as I usually run in Brooks Glycerin or Saucony Ride and my feet love to blister.  I have to tape my toes on every run I do over 5 miles or I pay dearly.  But I just adored the color of these shoes and had to have them!

I’m also having a great time playing with the Nike+ running app!  Yes, I have my Garmin watch, Garmin Connect, Strava, etc., but this is fun too!  The more charts and graphs, the merrier!

This picture shows my activity over the past few days, and it actually shows the weather too, which is nice to keep track of, especially when it’s sunny like it has been.  (No worries, I’ll try not to get used to the sun-shiny days as we’re about to have a major downpour.)  I also like the little trophies the app comes up with.  I got this one today:

Okay, well, it’s not really a trophy, but it does keep track of your fastest times and awards you when you’ve completed certain milestones.  This one is giving me kudos on being active for 3 weeks in a row, which is when training began for me for my next big race… Being active — it’s a lifestyle.

This was my view when I crossed my virtual finish line.  Guess that’s why they call it “fall,” ha!

One last thing… runners beware.  There are reports of owls dive-bombing runners and people during this time of year.  It’s mostly the barred owls and great-horned owls who do this.  They become highly territorial at the start of winter, hunkering down and preparing their nests for upcoming baby season.  Owls are brave and think nothing of “attacking” humans.  Wave your hands slowly overhead back and forth to keep them at bay and then leave the area.  They’re just trying to protect their home, so don’t take it personally.  🙂

Now get out there and complete that 5K challenge!  I double dog dare ya!

Whoohoo! Congrats on finishing the WWWP 5K Challenge! 😀 Those shoes are awesome, I wouldn’t have been able to pass them up either! I always enjoy all your pictures, I’m glad it’s been sunny for you lately! I know the El Nino isn’t necessarily a good thing everywhere, but I’m all for a mild winter too. 🙂

Yayyy, because one day we’re going to have to come to your state to run (you just have to tell me which one, hehe). It seems you mentioned it one time but I can’t find where you mentioned it, but I could’ve dreamt it, lol. I know your mom is in Iowa and will move to Florida, and your grandma is in Arizona… and I actually need all 3 of those states. We were going to go to Kansas in April, but we’ve changed that race to Utah instead. Haha, okay, I’m rambling, what can I say! Anyway, thanks for being my cheerleader! 🙂

Of course!! 😀 Well this will work out well; I’ll just have to go visit my family whenever you’ll be doing a race in their state! 😉 I live in Missouri, so yes make sure to let me know when you’ll be here! 😀 I probably have said it somewhere, but couldn’t begin to tell you when/where I did. Haha.

That sounds good, or whichever has the better bling!! 😉 Once you know when and where I’ll definitely plan on being there. 😀 (Or if I’m ever near a different one at any point!)

I had multiple things I like about this post. First, that view!!! Beautiful fall colors.
Next, the trophies. 🙂 I used to get them for runkeeper, but it’s been a while since I’ve done my longest, fastest, hilliest run, so runkeeper is quiet. I love charts and graphs too! Especially when color coordinated and showing progress.
And ooh! New shoes! I love the color!
Finally, good job on the challenge. I may join in. Is it simiply the 5K though, or can it be part of a longer workout?
Hope the rest of your week goes well. 🙂

Oh, the trophies are so much fun!! Have you ever used Strava? That one gives off nice trophies too!! Yes, do join the challenge! I think they’re trying to light up the globe, so to speak. Besides, it’s fun to learn about where everyone runs. And yes, it can be part of a longer workout… you just tag it with wwwp5k (or whatever I have it tagged as) so other runners can find you. Thank you… I hope your week goes well too!!!! 😀

No actually, you can either enter your workouts manually (the dreaded mill), OR, you can turn on their live tracker and let the GPS in your phone take care of it, which is preferred because then it shows the map and the trophies and your splits! I just happen to have my watch synced to it so it automatically tracks.
And yes, do TRY to do the 5K, hehe. I know you’ve got at least one short run of 8 to 10 miles planned for this week some time! 😀

Unfortunately I don’t have a smart phone that I take on my runs, and I usually log my runs into running ahead… But maybe one day.
In the meantime, you’re so right. I saved my efforts in my long run, and knocked out the challenge today 🙂

Love those shoes! What is dive-bombing? Do they just fly right into people? Sounds kinda scary. You seem to be accustomed to it and gave some great tips. It’s very rare that I ever see an owl outside the confines of a zoo lol

I work at a wildlife rescue and rehab center, and we live in a very rural area. It’s like being one with nature, haha! But I got a call from a lady who had been dive bombed by an owl… they literally will try to dive into you to scare and warn you, and they’ll do it over and over again. They use their feet as weapons and they have extremely powerful and sharp talons. Anyway, just thought I’d warn people about it and that it’s not uncommon. 😀

Love the new shoes! And the Autumn pictures, leaves are falling here too in the Uk, sounds like our climate is similar to yours, but I suspect not as cold in winter. I will do the 5k tomorrow for Wwwp – after all why not?😄
