And so it begins… again…

What a cool-looking dude!

James and I were doing a finger count tonight, and there are now 38 days until our next half-marathon in Lake Sammamish.  Don’t know why we thought it was 6 weeks away; hence, the counting on our fingers.  So today began the start of my next short and sweet training cycle.  As I just did a half and don’t really have the time on the calendar, I won’t be cutting back in mileage much.  My long runs for the next 4 weeks will be 8, 10, 12, 6, then 13.1.  Hmmm, that’s kind of scary.  But doable, especially as the weather is now cooperating and all the snow and ice has moved east (sorry East Coast).  Once again, I can run outside!  (Happy dance!)

Tonight was a scheduled 3 miles.  However, I was feeling pretty good and decided to attempt Mo Fo Hill, my nemesis.  What doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger.  At least I got some major work in on improving my VO2 (major major).  And just when my legs were feeling pretty good after my recent half, now my quads are screaming at me.  No pain, no gain!  (lovin’ those good old motivational mantras right now!)

Meeps is thinking he could really go for some overall body toning…

I also really liked the workout that Alana had posted on Living Out Loud, so I wanted to give that a try after my run as well.  A great workout!  I had to forego a couple of things on her list because my legs just weren’t having it (like the sumo squats and jumping jacks), but it was a great way to kick-start some toning and strength training (as my quads were already screaming at me, they especially weren’t too impressed after the wall sits).  So if you are in need of some toning, give one of Alana’s workouts a go!  She has lots of different ones to try.  Thanks Alana!

And the super good news is that I ordered a new pair of Brooks Glycerin’s 13, a full size larger this time (see, I really did learn my lesson).  I will have them just in time for my 8 miles this Sunday!  I’m so excited!  Can’t wait!  (You can read about my adoration of the Glycerin’s here.)

As well, it’s time to lose all that vacation weight!  Have you ever noticed that most everything in Hawaii comes with a side of chips/crisps?  So the dinner menu tonight consisted of spaghetti squash as the main course for Meatless Tuesday (it’s really supposed to be Meatless Monday, but… well… today is Tuesday).

And yes, according to my 5 running apps, the streaking continues…

Have a happy week! 😀

If you were to rule Mondays as meatless, what would you choose to serve?

I eat vegetarian a lot. Monday we had the rest of the potato soup so that qualifies.

Sometimes I have to go up a size & a half in my running shoes!

It’s so nice that you & your husband are on a common mission. I would probably run more halfs if left to my own devices, but since they involve my husband as support, I can only do what he’s up for.

Potato soup!! Okay, that’s a great one!! I totally understand what you’re saying with your husband as support… it took me a while to come around to this running thing after my husband started, but now we’re both having a great time together doing it. I feel very fortunate!

ugh Hills, my nemesis! I really should do more hill training but I can’t seem to wrap my brain around it, LOL Good for you!! I keep telling myself I should start ‘streaking’ but can’t seem to get past the idea of it.

Sounds like your next Half is the same time as mine…woohoo, we can cheer each other on 🙂

I know! Hills are the worst! But I have to keep telling myself it stretches my lungs, so that helps the mental, but oh they suck! Yes, we’ll cheer each other on! If we were running together, I’d be way behind you screaming loudly, “Go Sharon Go!! Beat that time! You can do it!” But I’ll definitely be cheering you from here (so I’ll scream really REALLY loud)!! 🙂

That’s exciting that you’re training for another half-marathon! YOU ARE A ROCKSTAR!!!! Great job your run PLUS the workout! It’s fun because it feels like we are training together. Doing the same workout. Thanks so much for featuring me on your post :). Maybe someday soon I will ask you for running advice. I would love to do a half-marathon before I turn 30, but am a little intimidated! Keep up the great training! Xoxoxo.

Thank you! And you’re welcome! I think you should definitely try a half! I recommend one of the bigger one’s, like a Rock ‘n’ Roll! The atmosphere will hook ya! And you get energy from all the other people! I used to think that the smaller races would be better, but I was wrong, in my opinion, lol! 😀 And it was fun trying your workout!

That sounds like a lot of fun! I have heard good things about the Rock ‘n’ Roll! I think I would have thought the same thing that a smaller race is better to start with, but that makes a lot of sense! My 1st Triathlon was the Danskin (I think it’s called something else now) all Women’s triathlon and it was BIG and so empowering to be with women of all shapes, sizes, and walks of life!!! I absolutely loved all the energy! 🙂

Tris are a lot of fun. I was a swimmer growing up so that helped me to enjoy the start. Lots of variety. I got super excited when I read your comment about the Rock ‘n’ Roll and visited the website. I am so tempted to register once I get paid… It looks like I would have enough time to train since it’s in June 🙂

I must say, you are one impressive gal! You just keep pushing don’t you? 🙂 Your quads are already aching and you’re doing wall sits?! LOL That’s great that you have such drive! And I love Meeps desire to get in shape too 😉 My Calcifer kitty is my workout buddy- he keeps me nimble during my morning Hiit workouts by racing around under my feet, then plopping down in the middle of my workout space!

Another marathon so soon? I guess you gotta get’em in to meet your goal of 50 in 50, eh? Best of luck with your streaking. I’ve never had spaghetti squash before but has meant to try it. Is it really good, or just ok?

I really like it because I was raised on squash. James eats it with spaghetti sauce, as do a lot of people, and I do as well, or just butter with salt and pepper. It’s yummy and so filling!! And yes, another race, lol! This next one is a “tune up” or trial run for our next state in April, which will be Utah. You’re about to see a lot of races come my way now until July… it’s prime season! :D. And yeah, we figure if we run 4 states a year, it’s still going to take us 10 to 12 years, so the 50 states thing is a very long-term goal, :D. It’s what we do and we really enjoy it, brutal races and all!! At the end of the day, what’s it really going to get us? Hopefully good health well into our old age, 😀

Good suggestions! And to be honest, I remember you posting that recipe, actually both of them because the garbanzo beans were from just last week! Yes? I’m going to check out the falafel one again to see if I could possibly make it, 😀
