Happy Valentine’s Day!

Jamesy and I have had a wonderful child-less Valentine’s weekend!  As well, it’s been great for AJ to get out, get unplugged, and go play in the snow!  AJ is due back any moment now, and while James and I have very much enjoyed our alone time together, both of us are going to be very happy to give him a nice Valentine’s Day hug.

Our special Valentine’s Day treat to ourselves… shortbread cookies dipped in chocolate! Happy Valentine’s Day to my forever sweetheart and the best husband ever!

There are only about 3 weekends left before the Lake Sammamish Half Marathon, and today was our normally scheduled long-run day.  After lazing around for most of the morning waiting for the rain to stop, we finally decided to suck it up and hit the trail; James for 12 miles, me for 10.  I was not thrilled about going for my run today for some reason.  Just one of those days, I guess. But then again, 10 miles is a long way to have to wrap your head around.

Still, out I went.  The weather was beautiful, nice and misty, cool but not freezing, and not too many people on the trail… which was good as I just wasn’t in the mood for people.  However, I did run into a couple of teenagers/young adults who seemed like they were up to no good. There is a marijuana … store… that backs up onto one part of the trail, and these kids were peeking in the fence, almost casing the place really… I just had a bad feeling about them.  So I steered clear, pulled the headphones out of my ears so I could hear them and everything around me, and kept my eye on them until they were out of my line of sight.  What on earth do you do in a situation like that? Yes, I had a bad feeling, BUT, what if they were just being curious and really only looking around? They weren’t breaking any laws so I couldn’t justify a call to the police… or should I have called them just because?  They weren’t even trespassing… they were just… creepy.  <sigh>

Anyway, the run went fairly well other than that little blip above.  I started to get tired at about mile 8, was going to make a loop around my house to give me that last mile, BUT, once I actually saw my house, my body and mind said, “oh hell no,” and that was that.  I officially ran 8.6… tsk, tsk. I’m feeling a bit bad about that as I only have 1 long run left, but hopefully if I nail my mid-week runs, there won’t be any serious repercussions from the setback of cutting today’s long run short.

To sum it up, I ran 19 miles this past week and am on day 45 of the 2016 run streak.

  • Favorite song on playlist today:  Charlie Puth — Marvin Gaye (pretty fitting for Valentine’s Day, ;D)
  • Number of cookies, pictured above, consumed thus far:  4
  • Number of calories per cookie:  200 (good thing I ran long today)
  • Number of fish that perished in my care this weekend:  2
  • Number of dinners I ruined this weekend: 1 (I’m getting better!)

James has written a wonderful little training update at 50 in 50 Marathon Quest… go check it out!  As well… a huge shout-out to Miss Dorothea of Wanderwolf Running for running a screaming fast marathon today, a BQ time (!), with some really cool bling!!  Well done Dorothea! Very proud of you!

Would you have called the police had you been in my situation?  How did you “treat” yourself today?  What’s your favorite race bling?!  Have a great week!!

Hi Paula, I enjoyed your post…and I felt relieved that you too, ‘have those days’ when you don’t really want to run, but just so it anyway. I personally am not a runner anymore, I would love to, but due to circumstances at home, it is impossible, so using the gym downstairs in my home with weights, and the treadmill just have to do. Anyway, well done for hitting that trail.
I would have been cautious too with regards to those youngsters…I think you did the right thing.
I checked out your hubby’s bog too, really nice and will check our your friend Dorothea’s blog too. Have an awesome week 🙂

Hi Lynne! Thank you so much! Yes, it’s super nice to have someone understand that there are “those” kinds of days no matter what, lol! Thanks for checking out my hubby’s blog too! Hope your week is great!! 🙂

I would have done exactly the same as you. Made myself Abel to hear and stayed aware. I would have wondered about calling the police but had a little anxiety about whether or not I was wasting their time. It’s tough to know!

You guys had a beautiful lovey-dovey time without AJ and that shortbread looks like it would crumble in the mouth 🙂 I think you did good by being careful with those teenagers, but it’s such a shame that there’s a place that they can get hold of Marijuana easily accessible to them. You are nailing for fitness lady. Keep it up.

Looks like you had a great time this past weekend! Those cookies look divine!
Regarding the kids, I probably would have done the same as you. I’d like to give everybody the benefit of the doubt, so I’d try to convince myself that the kids were just curious about what the place looked like, before calling the police. Besides, I’m sure that place has cameras all over, so they were most likely filmed hanging around.

I sure can relate to that feeling of not being motivated to run – our races are so close so we need to hang tough and do what we can so we’re not disappointed on race day…that’s what I keep telling myself!

As for the kids, I think I would’ve done the same thing. I like to give people the benefit of the doubt so I wouldn’t have called the police either.

Those cookies look delicious and I’m glad you had some ‘alone’ time this weekend. We went out to dinner alone on Sat and then went with friends yesterday, it was nice ❤

    MmmMMMmmm Coooookkkiieeess!
    Impressive streaking, too!!!
As for the youths you encountered… I would probably have walked up to them, introduced myself in my over-enthusiastic teacher voice and excitedly asked them what “cool thing” they were investigating. When they got all embarrassed and started saying, “nothin’ we was just hangin’ out,” just look disappointed and wish them a wonderful day. Of course, I’m also of the school of thought that we should smile and nod/wave at every human we pass (this may be why I find cities EXHAUSTING!) and I always have my bear mace with me. I LOVE the bear picture!

Lol, I would’ve loved to have done that to those kids actually, but, shame on me, I wasn’t carrying mace! Because if I had something to protect myself, I’da had no problem asking what was up!! 😀
Yeah, the bear is cool… and sometimes that’s just the type of motivation I need too, haha!

I think I would have done the same thing about the kids… definitely keep an eye out and be cautious. Then again, I am “that person” today. There is an area near my house that is not for cars – police vehicles only, but mainly for bicycles and pedestrians. Some idiots decided to park their cars there at 4am so yeah, I did call the cops, because something wasn’t right… BTW, my favorite bling is my Tiffany’s from the SF Women’s Half. I’m hoping next month’s will make me feel the best, though. Re-running the half that was my WORST. Redemption of some sort, but then I got sick and am behind schedule… Blah blah. Glad you had a wonderful weekend. Those cookies look yummy!

Yes!! The SF Half!! I have heard of that, and I’ve heard of that gorgeous bling! I want to do that one, but Nike won’t sponsor it anymore, so do you think the whole race is going to be dropped? I so want a Tiffany!! Anyway, yes, I know you’ve suffered some setbacks, stupid cold, but I really, really hope you are able to redeem yourself next month! I’ll be crossing my fingers for you and hoping for the best! What day is it? How much longer do you have to train?

Yeah, I am glad I managed to get in on Nike’s last sponsored half in SF. It really was inspiring and I had a wonderful time. Maybe they will change their minds. March 20 is my next half, so I have a little time to build up… She says crossing her fingers. 🙂

Good for you for staying motivated during your long run…I think I’d have pooped out! In regards to the teenagers…you know, in the past I probably would have let it go…but after having gone through some things in the past few years I think I would have called – sometimes getting in a little trouble can change a life for the better… 🙂 🙂

Yeah, that’s another thing I struggled with too, if for no other reason then to make them aware that people watch and listen. But again, they really weren’t doing anything wrong, sooo…. hard decision but wanting to do the right thing… 😛 I may just pull over a policeman and ask his opinion, what he would suggest… only because I’m sure this will happen again. 😀
