Race, Recover, Repeat

It’s been a week now since the SLC Half-Marathon, and I have to be honest, I’ve been nothing less than a sloth this entire time.  Actually, I’ve been too busy at work to even think about running, even having to bring work home with me for a couple of nights.  So I’ve taken this recovery thing to heart.  Well, that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.  However, it all begins again on Tuesday…

That being said, time to focus on the weight loss again and get rid of the winter gain.  I eat oatmeal for breakfast and I like to add peanut butter to it for the protein and flavor.  But this has a huge detrimental effect on the waistline.  Looky here:

190 calories and 7 g of protein for my favorite type of PB.  I quite possibly put more than 2 tablespoons in my oatmeal (what can I say… I love PB).  And no, I don’t measure it precisely the way I should… ain’t got time for that, so a big ole dollop of this deliciousness ends up in my oatmeal daily, along with all the calories and fat (16 g!!).  Let’s check out the ingredients:

A few of those ingredients I don’t recognize (mono and diglycerides?  hydrogenated vegatable oil? rapeseed?).  Thankfully I have my blogging friends to keep me on the up and up.  There’s big talk going around about powdered peanut butter.  It took me months before I’d even attempt to look for it in the store just to see what it was all about.  And while I wasn’t actually looking, I did run across some kind of PB powder finally.

It’s looking somewhat similar to the protein powder I put in my water-based smoothies.  Have a peek at the back side:

20160424_104458.jpg

Sweeet!  50 calories, 5 g of protein, and 2 g of fat!  The sugar content is the same, but 3 g is not too bad. Also, it has a total of 3 ingredients in it… peanuts, sugar, and salt.  Just add water and stir (something to keep in mind for the zombie apocalypse?  or are we over the zombie thing these days? I’m actually not… I still have a kid who plays Call of Duty).  Anyway, this will now go in my oatmeal as my peanut butter, AND, I’m going to plop a couple of tablespoons into my banana smoothies for added flavor there as well.  Again, my smoothies are water-based, so I don’t have to worry about sugar or calories from milk or yogurt.  I’ll let you know how this plan works out.

Moving on…

Last week in Salt Lake while I was touring Temple Square, Jamesy was hitting the race expo without me.  And while he was there, he bought me a present!!  Awwwww… he’s awesome! We’re going to be participating in a 6-hour hamster run in August (round and round for 6 hours… how far she goes, nobody knows), and he got me my own Camelbak vest so I can stay nice and hydrated! What a wonderful husband!  (How am I going to talk him into buying me those fancy-dancy trail shoes I’m absolutely going to need?!!)

Yesterday was a big shopping day at our house, getting ready for our celebratory karaoke night and all!  No worries… we were totally prepared!  Costco rocks!

20160424_104809.jpg

No, we weren’t drinking the Gatorade last night… look one shelf up.  That’s Jamesy’s beer supply… but I had to hunt to find the wine supply, hidden nicely in the back of a cupboard…

You may not be able to tell, but that’s 3 bottles deep, plus 2 more in the fridge.  Now don’t get all judgemental on me… the alcohol will last us at least until next week!  What can I say?! Our karaoke celebration went off swimmingly!  No worries… I didn’t record anything on video so I won’t subject you to that torture!

Weekly Stats:

  • Total Miles:  13.96  (see?  I have achieved complete sloth mode)
  • Total Steps:  31,716
  • Total cross training:  Hahahahaha!

Next up will be Jamesy’s Motivational Music Monday.  Will I stick with his “theme,” or will I be the wayward child and go totally off the wall?  Stay tuned…

I’m so glad you posted about the powdered peanut butter! I kept seeing it in Costco and wondering what it would be like (I mean, come on, POWDERED peanut butter?), but I think I may have to give it a try. I like like PB, but not the fat, calories, and extra ingredients.

if we signed up for that ultra in WI, then you would have to have those trail shoes because it says so in the rules (probably) 🙂

You probably don’t have it over there but the beat peanut butter IN THE WORLD is Pics Really Good Peanut Butter and it’s made right here in little old NZ. The best thing about it is the ingredients: Peanuts (and salt if you buy the salty one but it’s just as good without). That’s it! I ate ridiculous amounts of it last year and still managed to lose 26kgs cos it had no sugar, just good old fashioned harmless fat. (I’m very pro fat but anti-sugar and I don’t give a rats about calories Lol). I could go on about Pics for days but I think instead I might just go dip some carrot sticks in it for a snack. YUM!!!

Oh, I agree with you… I’m totally pro-fat as well! I should say, the good fat anyway! I know sugar is the enemy! And good for you for losing that weight! (Hence your motto… bacon made me skinny!! :D) Anyway… noooo, I have never heard of that PB before! I just googled it and they have a website… can’t even imagine how much shipping is to the states! However, they had a brilliant idea on their site, PB&J sandwiches dipped in egg, cooked, and eaten like French toast. Oh, holy wow!! Why didn’t I think of that!! 😀

They have some amazing ideas of what to do with it on their Instagram too. I never knew how many different foods went with peanut butter!

Can I just say how impressed I am by how much you race! You turn it around and run again and again and that is AWESOME! The PB Fit is great; it’s the only thing I use anymore.

Great post as always. 🙂 Are you sure there’s enough beer in that fridge ? (I’m sure Jamesy deserves a lot more than that for his kindness!) Good luck in your 6 hour quest. (You’ve just reminded me of another story…) Hope you get those new shoes too!

I loooooove nut butter. I usually do almond butter, and stick to the natural ones. But it’s not really a good protein source — it’s a great source of healthy fats, tho. I am very religious in measuring it out (even if those measures might be more rounded than they ought to be).

To up the protein in oatmeal I’ll often do it in my mini crockpot overnight and add a couple of egg whites.

If I’m doing overnight oats, I do a mixture of chocolate protein powder and PB2 — it’s really yummy!

I like your present. Mr. Judy told me yesterday he bought me a present. It was Nature’s Miracle — yes, he has a very odd idea of what a present ought to be.

Oh, that’s right! You prefer the almond butter! I tried that once… didn’t quite do it for me, but I did like it. And your protein oatmeal sounds fabulous with the eggs! What is your oatmeal to water ratio in the crockpot? That sounds to be right up my alley!!
Nature’s Miracle… hehehe! I think Mr. Judy has a sense of humor, lol!!

Its that time of year when the weather gets warmer (not here though, artic winds!!). Anyhow we can plan but its hard to say no to blackberry/apple crumble topped with custard! Not to mention the cheese scones & empire bics I made last week BUT today I bought blueberries & grapes plus natural yoghurt boring I know but needs must when the devil drives haha. Oh yes don’t be subtle just drop a huge big hint re the shoes!!! You know James!!!! Now off for my 4k walk but its looking very cold and dark rain clouds but every little helps those inches. Jx

It’s pouring here too! After last week’s heat wave, we have cooled down considerably! Like I said, it was too hot too soon! Hope you had a decent walk regardless! And yes, James and I have to be good until you arrive, because we know we won’t be while you’re here, hehe!! 😀 And the hint has been dropped… he didn’t even know what hit him, lol!!

Oh, bless your heart and thanks for saying that. Running doesn’t make you thin though, it actually makes you quite hungry, and you have to have incredible self control to not lose it at the donut counter!! 😉

Ha I was going to suggest the powdered peanut butter but you already discovered it. I DETEST peanut butter!! I know, I know, it is a good and easy source of extra protein. I tried to eat sunflower seed butter but it is a texture thing not a peanut thing (who knew) so I gave it to my son. He likes peanut butter. And wow that Camelback vest is awesome! Um, mothers day is coming you should put a bug in your sons ear about the hiking boots….. he will have to ask dad for help 😉 Weight is just a number on the scale. Stay off the scale and life is good. 😀 ❤

I know you hate PB, which cracks me up, because you don’t just hate it, you HATE it, lol! I get the texture thing… completely!! Yeah, that’s what I’ll do… suggest to AJ that he needs to buy me the trail shoes, hahahaha! That’d be good! (And yes, I know, stay off the scale, but my pants are getting snug and I can’t have that) 😀
