I made this rice tonight:
Notice what I did wrong? Aren’t you supposed to boil the water first before you add the rice? No worries… I’m not eating it… I’ll ask James later how it turned out.
Last night, I made these whole wheat tortillas in the oven:
I thought they’d be yummy, nice and crisp. I may as well have been eating a piece of cardboard because that’s exactly what they tasted like… cardboard. <sigh> Time for me to resign as the family cook… the boys will have to make their own Mac & Cheese (bummer).
These…
… are the bestest, most sinful snack ever in the history of ever. Cinnamon and sugar crostinis, courtesy of Haggen’s (so, no, I didn’t make them; James and I did, however, eat an entire bag of them last weekend).
On a bright note, the rescue and rehab center I work at just released 3 orphaned goslings to a new family (geese are awesome at fostering other babies… because they can’t count). What makes this special to me is that I was the releasor of said releasees. It was amazing. The little goslings thought they needed to follow me, so they did, until I walked them over to their new family… then they made a beeline to their new brothers and sisters and never looked back.
Two are smack dab in the middle… a little smaller than the others but they’ll thrive now.
Two days later I went back to check on them. Yep, still there, still with their little yellow heads (look for the tiny tint of yellow).
Rock ‘N’ Roll Seattle is coming up, June 18th. I don’t even want to talk about my training… that deserves a post all on its own (hint: severe PF).
Have a great night/day!! Got any wisdom for Wednesday?
Here’s a tip – always boil the water first, then put the rice in… Should resolve the first problem – Oh, yes, and keep checking on it. 😉
Chalet flowers day for us. The weather looks warm enough now to risk putting up some hanging baskets. Fingers crossed for no more snow (like Monday – brrr…) May blog about it when the holiday series is done.

Haha! Thanks for the tip Mike! 🙂
Okay, fingers crossed for no more snow! Yes, do share the pictures of your baskets after the Scotland trip! It’s so nice to finally see some color in the leaves and trees! James put together ours about 2 weeks ago! They just brighten everything up! 🙂

We’ve gone for some slightly different baskets this year, so we’ll see how they bloom. Jude is putting together the rest from individual flowers. (I’ll stick to blogging!)

You don’t always have to boil the water first…I actually saute the rice in a little olive oil and add chicken stock to my rice whenever I make it – then bring to a boil, stir it, reduce heat to very low, put a lid on it and it’s usually done to perfection in 10-12 minutes without touching it again. So don’t give up – try again! 🙂 🙂

Now THAT sounds like a delicious way to make rice!! I’ll have to try that! Thanks!!

Sounds like you may have had a glass or two of wine before cooking lol. The rice looked like it was going to start popping at any moment (popcorn) :D…better luck next time!

Hahahaha, I wish I could blame it on wine, that sounds wayyy better than old age, lol!! And you are so right! It does look like popcorn!! 😀

Are you actually supposed to boil the water first? Because I never have and my rice turns out fine or maybe I’m just lucky haha. So cute about the wee geese!

Hehe, I’m not exactly a good cook, so I have no idea proper protocol, but I’m hearing some people do boil first, some don’t. I guess at the end of the day as long as it doesn’t end up in the rubbish, hahahaha!! 🙂

Oh no! I am sorry about the PF. That really sucks.
But how sweet about the goslings! I love learning all that stuff, keep em coming!

Oh, I’m so happy you like my animal exploits! I have a great time doing what I do! And yes, that stoopid PF… I’m just beside myself with what to do. I’m trying to qualify for half fanatics (I’ll get great bennies at Tulsa), so I absolutely have to do RNR Seattle, but OMG…

What kind of benefits will you get? Wendy keeps saying it’s ok to run with PF – I assume you’re icing & rolling? Although personally I found heat on my ankle helps more than icing.
I really hate that our bodies won’t cooperate with us!

There’s a VIP tent with food and potties and my bib will be personalized and I’ll get a special fanatics medal. So I HAVE to run RNR. I am icing…. all day long… and rolling, and stretching, even taping. I agree… wish our bodies cooperated more, lol!!

There was a VIP option for ME, but you had to pay for it so I didn’t. All the bibs were personalized, which is always a nice touch.
Well, “try” to take it easy at Seattle so you can enjoy Tulsa!

Three weeks after Seattle will be Missoula, hence, the half fanatics qualifier. Three half’s in 90 days. What a bad freaking time to develop PF, hahahaha!!

Actually there’s a cause & effect there. 😔
