Just when you think you have it together, it all falls apart. Okay, not really, but this has not been one my favorite weeks in the history of weeks.
School started! Yay!! AJ now has to get up at 6 a.m. as opposed to the normal noon he’s been used to all summer. Mind you, he’s pretty much sound by 10 p.m., so it all evens out in the end. First day of school is always a little bit hairy as one needs to establish a whole brand new routine, and with him having to get up that much earlier makes it a bit difficult. He’s adjusted well for the first 3 days, so I’m proud of him. He’s growing up and accepting responsibility.
Speaking of growing up, he’s 5’5.5″ tall now and won’t turn 12 until next month. He now takes a regular P.E. class and has to run a mile every day, then right afterwards has to walk home a mile. Hmmmm…. there may eventually be potential for the child to start joining us in our 50 states quest.
But the week doesn’t stop there with just new routines… noooo… my mother calls me soon after I drop AJ off for his first day and she needs to go to the ER because she’s throwing up blood. After spending the entire day in the ER and after numerous tests, they wanted to keep her because her hematocrit was dropping, a sign of internal bleeding. She refused. Yep. She outright refused. I’m none too pleased with her. So I’ve been dealing with that crap too.
And now I’m late for Motivational Music Monday. Kinda like really late. More like Motivational Music Friday.
Actually, this one isn’t all that “motivational,” it’s just fun and lighthearted, one that I really enjoy. And it’s from the Eighties… classic ’80s! Love them ’80s songs! Hope this takes you back to a happy place!
And if you haven’t seen, James gave a great recap of our most recent venture with the Hamster Endurance Run. Go check it out. He does a nice job of his recaps.
By the way, did I mention my remaining fish have survived the death tank? All better now! 🙂
Happy Friday my friends!! May you have a blessed weekend!!
Fascination is a great one! I hope your mom gets better soon.

I remember this song, it is fun!! Your mom sounds like my mom – stubborn. I hope her health improves.

I think it’s a super fun song too!! And thanks Steph! I hope she gets better too. She’s incredibly stubborn and we’ve been in a constant argument since Wednesday, lol. (It’s okay, she raised a very stubborn daughter so we’re naturally going to butt heads when we disagree, haha)

Thanks Lady G!! I appreciate it! I worry because she’s almost 80, and she’s not realizing that she doesn’t have the health she did 30 years ago.

Thanks Alyson! Yes, it sucks! Especially when she’s mentally competent but not physically. I need to just be thankful that she’s not suffering from Alzheimer’s and leave her be, I guess.

I hope your Mom gets better, Paula! I love the Human League. Fascination has got to be my favorite song of theirs. Yes, it brings back great memories. Pink hair, crazy makeup, thrift shop clothes….good times! Also glad to hear that your fish have survived.

Your mother! My husband did that to me once- bleeding ulcer- wouldn’t stay in hospital came home with a bag of medical equipment thinking that I would resuscitate him if he bled during the night. I’d just done a 36 hour ‘shift’ so I slept like I was dead, fortunately he was alive the next morning😊 I hope that your mother recovers as well! Love the human league video. Takes me back! What dreadful makeup we wore then!!!!

That was A LOT of makeup we wore back then, hahahaha! And thanks Julie! Stubborn people do not realize the grief they cause for their loved ones. Frustrating. :O

For right now, I guess. As of Friday her hematocrit was down to 25 and her kidney function is deteriorating. She only has 1 kidney as it is, so we shall see if the medicine they gave her will help or not, which is, yes, only a PPI. She wouldn’t/couldn’t give me the value of her creatinine. Time will tell as she won’t deal with it. Maybe she’s just done with this life, and if that’s the case then I have to accept her wishes as hard as it is.

Sounds like a worrying situation for you about your mother. She isn’t well but if the bleedings stopped she can recover from this, the body is incredible at adapting. Like you say you can’t force choices on her. All you can do is give her love and support. Sending you love xx

Oh my! Your mother’s health does not sound good, and while I understand she would rather be home taken care of by you, it would have been thoughtful to consider that it’s a scary burden for you… But illness usually makes us a bit selfish. She trusts you, and I hope the issue is healed soon. AJ is tall!! Wow. Those two miles a day will turn into 5k by high school, maybe 😉
Glad the fish are surviving. Great song. Hope you have a wonderful weekend…. Much better than the week.

Thank you Dorothea! Yes, my mother thinks she’s still 50 when in fact she’s almost 80. She doesn’t accept that this is something that could kill her at her age.
About AJ…. I know right! We’re going to sign him up to become a linebacker, lol!! Running isn’t his most favorite thing, but we do try without forcing the issue, 🙂

I’ve been horribly out of touch because my day job has been sucking the life out of me. I’m so sorry to hear about your mom…I hope it’s nothing too serious and she comes to her senses about getting the medical attention she needs.
Great song choice – I love me some 80’s music!! And it definitely sounds like you have another runner in the making 😉 Hang in there!!

Thank you Sharon!! I figured you were busy as I hadn’t seen much of you lately and I don’t get on IG as much as I should! People like my mother will only let themselves be admitted if they’re super sick. It’s so annoying, hehe!

Sorry to hear about your mom’s health… and her stubborn tendencies. Or, maybe she isn’t stubborn, but that was my interpretation based on my mom. 🙂 Hope next week is better.

Thanks Christina! Yes, she’s very stubborn. She just doesn’t understand that anything abnormal happening to her body these days could result in end of life (she’s 79 and not healthy). I just have to accept it and move on unfortunately.

You know I feel you on the mama drama (in reverse?). At least my mom accepts help. Sort of. And at least I’m still home . . . for now.
Hugs!

Throwing up blood is never a good sign. If she’s bleeding internally she needs to have that looked at. I know it has to be very difficult knowing that, yet not being able to convince her to seek medical attention. Maybe try throwing in a guilt trip and saying just how much AJ needs his grandmother around. Speaking of AJ, the part about him joining you guys for the 50/50 was very funny! It does sound like the universe is prepping him for his destiny!!! No way around it at this point. 😀

Thanks Tasha. Unfortunately, there’s no convincing that woman of anything. All we did was argue because of it, and I figured if she was going to die, I didn’t want our last conversation to be an argument, so I backed off. She doesn’t get it that she’s nearly 80.
Hahaha, yeah, AJ is doomed, lol!! Not really doomed, but you know what I mean…. he’s running whether he wants to or not, poor kid. 😀

Hi Paula!
I am going to keep you, your family, and your mother in my prayers. I hope she will feel better soon! It is hard to believe that it is already back to school! I hope it will be a great school year for AJ.
I’m sending you some great, big hugs!
