I Can’t Feel My Face

So, I had dental surgery last Tuesday.  One of my wisdom teeth was starting to grow directly into the nerve root of my upper back molar, causing me a significant amount of pain.  I was hoping that the antibiotics the dentist gave me would clear up the pain and that surgery could wait until after the Route 66 Half, but I wasn’t infected, so there was no pain relief from the antibiotics, and something had to give.  Which just so happened to be my back molar.

Now, most people get to be asleep when they have dental surgery.  Not me.  I have been to 3 different oral surgeons, all of whom couldn’t find a vein on me (my veins roll).  One of them even turned me away and said “oh hell no,” he wasn’t doing surgery without me being asleep. Drama, drama, drama.  Anyway, I stayed awake, they eventually got the tooth out, and now no more pain other than regular postop.  Yay!

Moving on…

AJ had his official birthday party with friends last weekend.  Thankfully my mouth pain behaved so I could deal with 6 very loud boys with no problem.

3… 2… 1… DAB!

Then this happened:

Ohhh yeahhhhh!  My wonderful hubby made sure I had the brand new MB CD to relax to that very same evening!  I’m biased, but I give the album two thumbs up!  Not keen on his Beach Boys remake… I think he slowed it down way too much, but hey, you can’t be perfect all the time, can you!

Other than that, I’ve been pretty much recouping!  I missed Motivational Music Monday last week, and apparently so did James!  James was having problems with his site showing up in the reader, so Music Monday turned into Music Happy Hour Friday!  He picked a silly obnoxious song as he was drinking pumpkin beer (that’s just wrong on so many levels), but if you’re curious as to what was making him get down and boogie, go check it out.

As for me, I’m choosing a song and dedicating it to all the dentists and oral surgeons out there. This song has also been on my playlist for my last 4 races. Love it! Enjoy your Weeknd (ha! see what I did there?)!!

It’s almost Halloween!  Are the spiders and ghosts in place??  Are you dressing up to hand out candy?  If so, what’re you going to be?  And stay tuned… now that I’m feeling better, I’m about to go explore a spooky trail with my GoPro to see where it takes me…

    Hi Paula!
I hope you will feel better soon. I got all 4 of my embedded pesky molars pulled my senior year in high school… Everyone else I knew who had it done recently bounced back easily with the aid of a single weekend and some ice cream, but not me. I was puffed up like a chip munk for over two weeks. Then I was allergic to the antibiotics so my eyes swelled shut… A memory I am glad is in the distant past.
Great choice of song! I love the Weekend too 🙂 Can you believe that we have already reached the end of October?! The holidays are on the way! I’m sending you big *hugs* Xoxoxo.

Good for you having your extraction under local! I did too and I’m a dreadful patient! But I recovered in a few days. Over here we call them ‘wisdom teeth’.😊

LOL, there was no way I was coming out of that place… after 5 attempts at an IV access… with that tooth still in my mouth! But thankfully the gas was cranked so high, I actually think I floated to a cloud wayyy up above, 😀

5 goes – poor you!when I had mine they injected local anaesthetic around my jaw to do a nerve block. It worked and was ok after that! The consultant was teaching the junior though, so I got to hear a complete description of how to do the op!!!

Glad to hear you’re doing okay, Paula! You are braver than me. I would be demanding drugs. So you are biting the bullet and going on that creepy trail? So cool! I can’t wait to see the footage. Just make sure you do it in the middle of the day. LOL.

Wisdom Teeth – I mean seriously, what a name? I used to wonder where they got their name from 🙂
Anyway, I am glad you are feeling a lot better and that whole ordeal is over – shame, not nice to go through. x

I feel your pain with your wisdom tooth ordeal. Two of mine were impacted and I had to have them removed when I was in my mid-20’s. Not fun at all. Sounds like your experience wasn’t as bad as it could have been. Hopefully you’re recovering nicely. Great choice of song! Happy Halloween!

Hahahaha, I know right! Pumpkin beer! James really enjoys it and he can’t stand pumpkin, so maybe it is good, lol! I’ve never understood the pumpkin latte thing either, but then again, I don’t drink coffee (or beer), so it’s ALL lost on me, 😀

Ugh dental work is the worst! Glad the pain subsided before the party. Looks like the boys had fun. So glad you got the new album, very thoughtful husband. The only good thing about pumpkin are the seeds. I had a plan for a costume this year then realized I would not be at work on Halloween so I will save it for next year. (pig in a blanket)

Thanks Renee!! And what a great idea for a costume! You don’t get trick or treaters? I don’t usually dress for Halloween, but when I do, I like to be scary, 😀 (which is actually probably why I don’t dress for it, I’d scare all the poor little ones and traumatize them, lol)

We don’t even give candy out anymore! Yes, we’re that couple. Too hard keeping track of 4 animals (now 3). We just turn off all the lights & luckily there is no egging or papering.

I was definitely knocked out to have my wisdom teeth out (all 4 at once, several impacted). I was given a choice, actually, like I would choose to be awake! Glad it didn’t keep you down for too long.

You deserve some good stuff — you’ve had a rough few months, too.

It really has been a bad couple of months. Time to hit the reset button and start brand new!!

James and I are that couple too, haha! But we live in a neighborhood full of kids, and we have a kid who likes to TOT and hand out candy, soooo, we have no choice in the matter anymore, 😀

We did hand out candy when we lived in TX & we had a ton of kids there. But we also had a ranch house, and now it’s a raised ranch so the front door is on a landing between stairs . . . doesn’t really work so well.

So exciting! Spooky trail for halloween!
I will be hiding with all lights out – ah the perks of not having kids 😀
Glad you have the dental issue behind you.
Pumkin beer? Why not – never tried, but with James on the coffee and beer front.

Ah yes… the perks to not having kids, I remember, :D. However, thankfully I now have my own little candy hander-outer who just loves being the candy god, lol!! Happy Halloween!! I know it’s about the bewitching hour for you, so maybe you’re curled up watching a nice scary movie? Have a fun night! 😀

Wow, I hope they were able to at least numb your mouth pretty well…that just sounds painful as all get out!! Love the pic with AJ and his friends in their lil pose. It looks like they were having a good time!

It sucked Tasha! But yes, I white knuckled it and I was plenty numb! Not to mention all the wonderful gas… they cranked it for me, so I was able to float to another place, lol! Yeah, the boys had a great time. That little pose is called the “dab,” made famous by Cam Newton. Every middle schooler knows it and knows it well. Teachers even have a rule of “no dabbing,” lol!

Toothache pain has got to be the worst. You were probably fortunate that the one dentist turned you away, he may have caused you more pain in the long run. Glad everything is fine now and congrats on your next to the last run for the year!!

I absolutely love that song, I put it in the same category of awesomeness as Uptown Funk except a little better. I assume as this was a month ago you are back up and running, I’m so behind with my reading!
