Way back when, late ’80s/early ’90s, I lived in the University of Arizona district in Tucson. I walked everywhere. To and from work, I walked. Restaurants, stores, I walked. Even in the midst of the summer heat (one time in 117 degrees F), I walked. And I never went anywhere without my Walkman (for cassette tapes) or my Discman (for CDs). I was always plugged into music and had favorite groups I would listen to over and over again. En Vogue was one of those groups.
For #FlashbackFriday and for #MotivationalMusicMonday over at 50 in 50 Marathon Quest, I present to you En Vogue… Free Your Mind! An inspiring song, especially with all the separation that’s going on in our country now. It’s also great to get up and move to!
And just for extra fun, Hold On… the first hit from their debut album.
Oh, I can’t stop there! Giving Him Something He Can Feel just makes me smile!
And last but not least, Yesterday. You had to own the album to actually know they did it, but this song showcases their true talent.
Saturday morning, James and I are headed to the Lake Sammamish Half-Marathon. He’s running, and I’m sitting out this time… for once I get to be the cheerleader! Yayyy! It’s supposed to snow again (boooo)… so be sure to wish him good luck! He’s going to need to run really really fast just to stay warm! (Please wear your Hoka’s, hunny… you don’t own YakTrax).
Have a fantastical weekend!!
Lol I remember going everywhere with my clunky Walkman. It was so cutting edge at the time though. How many batteries did we go through back than??

I’ve gotten to be an athletic supporter for just ONE race so far- my friend’s half a few years back – and loved it! Signs and cowbells, oh my! Have fun!

Sorry I missed this so I couldn’t cheer him on! I hope that you sitting it out isn’t due to any type of illness/injury?

No, I’m just taking it easy this year, maybe only do 2 or 3 races. I enjoyed cheering on the runners!

I think that’s very wise. You’ll notice I don’t do that many halfs & I still battle the nagging injuries.

Ah… En Vogue. I might have had a crush on at least two, and possibly all four members. Oh, how they could sing!

Great voices. Great messages (especially “Free Your Mind,” even if the lyrics are worth a conversation in the 21st century). Hadn’t heard of them before, but I’m glad I know them now! Thanks for sharing, Paula. 🙂

En Vogue! Free your mind. That brought back some memories along with my love, never gonna get it. I remember there was a time when I rode my bike and hiked, ran etc with my ever present earphones and walkman too.

Oh yeahhhh! That was a great song to move to as well! (“Now it’s time for a breakdown…”) They were so good! Such great memories. And truth be told… I still don’t go anywhere with my headphones! I couldn’t imagine even grocery shopping without them, lol! (People annoy the heck out me, ;D)
