The recap part of this post will be short and sweet. Lather, rinse, repeat as they say.
Monday: 3 miles. The day after my long run. This is probably not the day I should take on Mo-Fo Hill, but I did. I’m enjoying seeing my progress and how much easier it’s getting week by week to go up this hill. I’m no longer needing 10 minutes to catch my breath once I get to the top (only 9 minutes now, lol).
Tuesday: 5 miles. If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen the picture already. It was a gorgeous, early morning run by the lake. I usually fight getting up so early, but I’m always so happy when I do.
Wednesday: I rested. Yep, I said it… I rested. I was supposed to cross train, but I didn’t. I’m not proud of it, but life happens.
Thursday: I rested again. I was supposed to run 5 miles, but I missed my early morning and it was so nasty hot in the evening.
Friday: 3 miles. Again, I couldn’t get up as early as I wanted, so that only left me enough time to tackle 3. I was going to finish it off with 2 in the afternoon, but, well… we all know how that goes, don’t we.
Saturday: Rest day.
Sunday: 10 miles. You know you live in a small town when running from one end to the other is only 5 miles. I had to make up the difference with an out and back on the trail. A beautiful run, so cool, so overcast. I live in the Pacific Northwest for the clouds, people, not the sun, hehe.
Weekly Total: 21 miles/34 km (Shameful… I must do better this coming week. Respect the distance.)
Total Mileage So Far: 62 miles/99 km
But wait!
There’s more!
Sunday night we went to see 2 Cellos play at Chateau Ste Michelle Winery in Woodinville. It was thanks to Motivational Music Monday and the lovely Dorothea from Wanderwolf Running who introduced us to these fun musicians.
In case you don’t know who they are, they are two classically trained cellists from Croatia who took the world by storm with their rendition of Michael Jackson’s “Smooth Criminal.” They play everything from Vivaldi to AC/DC, not to mention a little Iron Maiden and some Nirvana.
An amazing time. The child even enjoyed it. (Side note here… AJ has asked to go see Bon Jovi if and/or when they come back to Seattle… I’m so proud!!)

Not my photo. I totally pilfered it from 2 Cellos Instagram site. Can you see us? We’re the ones waving our arms!
And just in case you’re interested… here is a link to them playing Smooth Criminal, Thunderstruck by AC/DC, and Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana. I’m telling ya, they really rock.
It does like you had a rocking time! I shall have to look up these cellists 🙂

21 miles a week is still really good! Also, I remember watching the 2cellos on YouTube. They are sooooo talented. I should probably see if they’re gonna swing by my city any time soon. 🙂

Thank you so much Angela. I greatly appreciate it. I just read one of your earlier posts from before I started following you. Boy, it hit home. You’re so inspirational! Xx

Actually, I did read it before. But it really makes a point with me now that I’m smack in the middle of training! 😃 It’s the one where the race is the finish line.

Aww thank you! I think I wrote that the day before the marathon so was feeling a little emotional that all the hard work was about to finally come to an end. Its crazy how many people relate to that post, my marathon was merely a bucket list tick but even frequent marathoners seem to relate so it just shows marathon training is a marathon for EVERYONE! YOU’VE GOT THIS!!

Don’t worry about skipping a training run or two, there’s still plenty of sessions left between now and your race. I think your Commenter (above) got it about right on her post: https://thatextrainch.wordpress.com/2017/05/22/the-marathon-is-not-on-race-day/
I particularly liked the line “race day is just the finish line”. 🙂

Thanks Mike! And yes, she did say it well! A very good post and great read! Thanks for sharing it… she must have posted it before I started following her so I missed it. 😊

Maybe you need James to start getting you up in the mornings, LOL? It’s so hard! Even when you don’t work (and that much harder when you do). Of course we never regret it when we do, but damn, getting out that door is hard.
Or maybe you need to pay James when you don’t . . .

Lol, I actually have to get up before James. But both great ideas! I just need more self discipline than I have right now, for shame upon me, 😃

With his commute, I’m surprised you have to get up before him!
Don’t beat yourself up — do what you can do — no training cycle is perfect & pushing yourself too hard won’t help.

Lol, James is no nonsense in the morning. It takes him 30 minutes to get ready and be out the door by 6 to make it downtown by 8. Me, not so much. ☺

I think it takes Lloyd even less . . . but I can get it together quickly (sometimes). Definitely easier for the guys!
OTOH, often when we go somewhere he’s just relaxing on the couch (but that’s because I’m cleaning up and feeding the animals!).

2 Cellos are great! My husband introduced me to them a while back. We haven’t seen them in concert, though, so I’ll bet that was a lot of fun. Don’t worry about your training so much now. You’re out there running and you’ve got lots of time until the race!

Thanks Donna! I appreciate the encouragement! And yes, 2 Cellos! If you ever get the chance, do see them! They’re quite funny too, 😁

A friend of mine shared their version of Thunderstruck a while back. It was AWESOME.

Giiiiirl 21 miles in a week is NOT shameful! I’m lucky if I hit 12 most weeks! You’re being smart and getting those rest days when you need them. Nice work!

Thank you Meesh, 😃! But I know the only reason you’re not getting mileage right now is your busy life, which is so freaking awesome BTW!! 😁

So glad you enjoyed the cellists! They really are spectacular!! 😊

21 miles is great! I think I’ve only hit 20 once this year. That made me sad typing that, haha. I think I have heard of them but have never listened to their music. I will have to check them out!

Ha ha. They really do rock. 🙂 cool recaps. I can’t believe you’re already through your first quarter of marathon training! You’re doing really well, Paula. Better to have too many rest days than too few…especially for the first race! Keep on rocking, in and out of the running shoes 🙂
