Round and Round

It’s Tuesday!  So that must mean it’s time for Motivational Music Monday (ha)!  Go on then!  Go check out what James has chosen for the week!  And while you’re there, add a song you’ve been listening to in the comment section!

This week it’s all about the Hamster Run.  And what do hamsters do?  Why they go Round and Round, of course!  Just like Ratt!  It just kills me that Milton Berle was in this video.  How on earth did they get Milton Berle for their video?!

Enjoy your day!!

Counting Stars

It’s Monday!  Which means it must be time for Motivational Music Monday at 50 in 50 Marathon Quest!  Pop on over and say “hey!” to James!  Be sure to let him know your favorite song for this week!  He’s in the process of building his Spotify Playlist, and believe you me, it needs some additions!  😉

I’ve been having a great time with the group One Republic just recently.  They’re one of those bands that just can’t go wrong with me.  Their music hits my soul as do the lyrics.  While Stop and Stare is actually stuck in my head at this particular time, I felt maybe Counting Stars was just a bit more upbeat, something one could trot along nicely to, not to mention the words are something that hit home with me…

I see this life, like a swinging vine
Swing my heart across the line
And in my face is flashing signs
Seek it out and ye’ shall find
Old, but I’m not that old
Young, but I’m not that bold
And I don’t think the world is sold
On just doing what we’re told
I feel something so right
Doing the wrong thing
I feel something so wrong
Doing the right thing
I couldn’t lie, couldn’t lie, couldn’t lie
Everything that kills me makes me feel alive

Have a fabulous day!!

Motivational Music Monday — Lovergirl

It’s time for Jamesy’s MMM linkup at 50 in 50 Marathon Quest, calling forth for all motivational or not-so-motivational music to be posted for those of us in need of some new or different types of sound.  Go visit his site and post a rockin’ good (or bad) song in the comments!

I’m not particularly in the mood to follow suit with what he’s posted, so I’m going completely different.  I’m hittin’ up the good old Eighties!  What a great era for music!  Back then, we all liked to bang our head and rock out, even the girls.  Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you Miss Teena Marie and Lovergirl, an oldie but always a goodie.

(Feel free to click the extra links above… you might find bonus music…)  Hope your week is nothing less than wonderful!

Life In One Day

It’s Monday! Ummmm… yay? Okay, well, yay for Motivational Music Monday at 50 in 50 Marathon Quest!  Time to post some music that you’re enjoying this week!  Got any ’80s songs that you’re in love with?  Shout ’em out!!

I mentioned yesterday that James and I went to see Howard Jones and OMD over the weekend, so I think it’s most fitting that I come up with something from good old Howard, one of my all-time favorites.

I think one of the reason’s I was so drawn to Howard is because he was a fabulous lyricist.  His words had meaning, and, as an impressionable teenager, I could relate to most of what he was trying to say.  The song I chose is probably not a mainstream hit, but it is upbeat and a happy little tune, kind of quirky really.  It’s called, “Life In One Day.”  The lyrics follow, but I also chose a video that plays the lyrics.  The original video is actually quite annoying, with breaks here and there and people talking in the middle of it, and if you’re actually going to listen to the song, then I want you to hear the song as I heard it back in the day.

Lyrics

The old man said to me
Said don’t always take life so seriously
Play the flute
And dance and sing your song

Try and enjoy the here and now
The future will take care of itself somehow
The grass is never greener over there
Time will wear away the stone
Gets the hereditary bone

Don’t try to live your life in one day
Don’t go speed your time away
Don’t try to live your life in one day
Don’t go speed your time away

The old man said to me
Said you can’t change the world single-handedly
Raise a glass enjoy the scenery
Pretend the water is champagne
And fill my glass again and again
While the wolves are gathering round your door
Time will wear away the stone
Gets the hereditary bone

The old man said to me
Said don’t always take life so seriously
Play the flute
And dance and sing your song

Try and enjoy the here and now
The future will take care of itself somehow
The grass is never greener over there
Time will wear away the stone
Gets the hereditary bone

I tried to live my life in one day
Don’t go speed your time away

I bit off more than I can chew
Only so much you can do

Wolves are gathering round my door
Ask them in and invite some more

I tried to live my life in one day
Don’t go speed your time away

Of course, the song that got me started on my positive thinking way of life was from him, “Things Can Only Get Better.”  I listened to that song over and over again until I truly believed those words, heart and soul (it’s not easy being a teenager).  I recorded a snippet of it at the concert… I wanted to sing and dance, too, but no way was I doing that on camera, so I only recorded about a minute.  The lyrics to the first verse follow.

Lyrics

We’re not scared to lose it all security throw through the wall
Future dreams we have to realize
A thousand skeptic hands won’t keep us from the things we plan
Unless we’re clinging to the things we prize

And do you feel scared, I do
But I won’t stop and falter
And if we threw it all away
Things can only get better
Wow wow wow oh, wow wow wow oh oh oh oh

Have a super great week, my friends!

Can’t Stop The Feeling

It’s time for a little Motivational Music Monday over at 50 in 50 Marathon Quest!  If you have a particular song this week that’s really getting it done for you, go let James know what it is!  New, old, fast, slow… something’s gotta be making you happy!

James is going with running cadence this time as he’s chosen a fun little tippy-tappy ditty.  I’m following suit, of course.  The song I’ve chosen is supposedly best for a 13:42/mile pace, which I find to be interesting.  I do have it on one of my playlists, so I’m going to have to give it a test to see if that’s really the case.  Regardless, it’s a great little upbeat song to run to and what a great video to boot!  If you woke up this morning, there’s no reason you shouldn’t be dancing… it certainly beats the alternative!

Make it a great one!!

Try A Little Tenderness

It’s time for a little Motivational Music Monday over at 50 in 50 Marathon Quest!  If you have a particular song this week that’s really getting it done for you, go let James know what it is!  New, old, fast, slow… something’s gotta be making you happy!

James is going with a karaoke-inspired song this week from The Commitments.  I love that movie… it’s one I could watch over and over and it would never get old, mostly because the music is just so good.  So while you’ll have to pop on over to 50 in 50 to see what James came up with, I am going to post my favorite song from that movie, Try A Little Tenderness.  This is the best version of the song I’ve ever heard.  While I couldn’t find the actual movie scene, I did find one with lyrics, so you can read along.  Have a listen:

Now, here’s the funny thing… my boy MB also does a version of this song, but I’m sorry to say, The Commitments’ version is still my favorite.  However, one can never go wrong with Michael…

I think the first time I ever heard the song itself was in the movie Pretty In Pink.  Jon Cryer did a bang-up job in this scene… with the original version by Otis.  Go ahead… watch and have a little smile…

Happy Monday my friends!  Hope you have a smashing week!

MMM #17

It’s time once again for Motivational Music Monday!  Anyone can contribute, so go check out James at 50 in 50 Marathon Quest and add a song and/or link in the comments!

This coming Saturday is

Rock ‘N’ Roll Seattle

our 4th race of 2016!

I’m doing the half & James is doing the full (may heaven help him on all those hills)!

And I couldn’t think of a more appropriate song for this coming week!

For everyone rockin’ it this weekend, we salute you!

Happy Monday!  May you have a blessed week!

Happy Mother’s Day

It’s been a brutal week for me.  I was diagnosed with Influenza type A and have been basically confined to bed since last Monday night.  To top it off, my son came down with a wicked fever yesterday, and he, too, has been diagnosed with type A flu.

I’m feeling better now, basically normal, so I hope to do some catching up with my wonderful blogging friends, please forgive my absenteeism.

In the meantime, it’s time for Jamesy’s Motivational Music Monday again already!  Do you have a song that gets you up and motivates you?  Give him a visit and share your song.  We all need new music!

However, as it’s Mother’s Day, I would like to dedicate this particular post to every mom out there.  While your child may not necessarily always tell you, know that they love and appreciate you and everything you’ve ever been to them:  caregiver, nurse, teacher, guidance counselor, chef, maid, etc., … and they always will.

To all the moms (and dads substituting as mom), I truly hope you’ve had a beautiful day.

One of the greatest groups of all time …Boys II Men … “A Song For Mama”

Have a great week!

WHAM!

What time is it?!!  It’s time for Jamesy’s Motivational Music Monday!  It’s time to search those playlists and post what floats your boat!!  One day James will actually create the linky link thing, but in the meantime, put your video link in the comment section on his site so we can all see what makes you happy, gets you running or walking, or just plain puts a spring in your step!

When James told me he was going to post a rap song (you have to visit his site to actually see what rapper gets that metal head out and running), there was one song that came to my mind instantly. Now, most of you know that Buble is my boy; however, back in the eighties, George Michael was above and beyond my favorite of favorites.

Like most American kids/tweens/teenagers, I watched American Bandstand and Soul Train every Saturday morning (after Bugs Bunny, of course), and this is where I first saw Wham!  They performed this song (Wham Rap!), they were dressed exactly how they were dressed in the video, and they even danced the same way.  Ahhh, such entertainment!  🙂

This song is full of energy and still gets my blood pumping and my legs moving!  It’s nice that not everything changes.  Watch the video.  If you know the song, see if it doesn’t bring a smile to your face after all these years.  And if you don’t know it, I would still bet the video puts a smile on your face… if for no other reason than how fabulous the clothes and hair were back then! (George is sporting a tail, hehe)  Enjoy!!
