Share Your World

Many thanks to Cee from Cee’s Photography for helping me come up with my NaBloPoMo post for today.  Cee hosts a weekly “Share Your World” Q&A session so that bloggers can get to know each other.  Cee asks the question, the blogger answers them.

James May 13 2009 069What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you hear the word “fun”?  If you know me, you might expect me to say “race-cation,” which would be 100% true, but fun also makes me think of karaoke!  Or Happy Hour… but then karaoke and happy hour go hand in hand, don’t they!

What is your favorite time of day? Definitely morning!  It’s so peaceful… no noise, only the birds singing, no built-up stress from the day (yet).  Every morning is a time to start brand new.

Given the choice of anyone in the world, whom would you want have a evening with? There is no one in the world I would rather spend an evening with more than the people I spend every single evening with… my family.  Unless it’s Michael Buble, and I’m with my husband, and we’re seeing him in concert… oh, I guess that’s more of an IDEAL evening as opposed to who…

Complete this sentence: Something that anyone can do that will guarantee my smile is… show me a cute animal picture, video, or better yet, place an animal in my hands to hold. When I hold or look at animals, all my cares and worries seem to just melt away.  Such genuine souls.

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?  Last week I am grateful that my ankle incident wasn’t an actual injury, and this week, I’m looking forward to Friday Happy Hour with James (minus the karaoke, hehe).

Sharing Sunday

13618e16e89b98495dd93f2e42fd2b70e51e17f7_share-the-love-graphic-300x300I’m seeing around the blogging community that today is Sharing Sunday.  I’m not absolutely certain what that means, but I think I’d like to share the love for some other bloggers and websites that are I really enjoy following.

Aidyl93, Life From My Point of View.  A wonderful person and writer, she blogs about everything from her everyday life, to her band, to her creative writing.  She writes some fabulous stories, and I was able to watch her band stream live on Twitch last night which was a ton of fun.  Lydia and I were in Blogging 101 together which is a fabulous place to be to meet new and not-so-new bloggers.

Hit Below The Belt… Hard.  I met Tasha in Blogging 101 also (again, a great place to meet other bloggers).  She blogs about self defense and teaches people how NOT to be a victim. She really makes you think about certain situations and preparedness.  Every Friday she hosts “Funny Friday.”  If I’m able to check my email first thing on Friday, I sit down with my cup of tea and read her blog.  It’s always good to start the day with a smile.

Art At Hand.  I’ve been a fan of Serena’s since the very beginning of my blogging life.  She’s one of my favorite photographers.  She tries different techniques on her photos and she explains why.  Sometimes I try to see things through her eyes and lens.

Travel, Running, and a Little Bit of Style.  I’ve been following Rebecca since the beginning as well. She’s traveled all over the place, has had some great adventures, and she runs!  She’s even had destination race-cations!  And I’m all about the race-cation thing!

Wanderwolf Running.  Meet Dorothea.  She is one of the most humble person’s I’ve had the pleasure of following.  She is also the very quiet yet very loyal supporter of the running blogs. She is an incredible athlete and I love reading about her race training even though she’s way out of my league.  Someone I learn from.

50 in 50 Marathon Quest. The Motivator in my story and my loving husband.  I’m very proud of him.  He wants to run a marathon in all 50 states, averaging about 4 per year until complete. And I get to join him, running all the half’s.  I’m going to be ready for a nap by the time I hit 60.

This is not the top of the hill; this is about half way.

And sharing other news from over the weekend, I ended up having to run MoFo Hill (its new name) because it did not rain, of all the luck.  I made it 1-1/2 times before I died halfway up.  A fabulous start and baseline.  It will be fun to gauge my improvement over the coming weeks… ummm, that is assuming I improve, hehe.

Also, James and I signed up for Facebook. Come say hi to us if you get a chance!! We would love to hear from you!! The links are Never a Dull Bling and 50 in 50 Marathon Quest.

wpid-20151107_205342.jpgToday is our normally-scheduled long run day (me 11, Jamesy 15), the most important run of the week.  Doesn’t matter if it’s raining, snowing, or hot as hell, gotta get out there and get it done. So I made this One Pot Pasta for our pre-run dinner and post-run snack. Throw it all in a pot, let it boil, and the water magically disappears.  It’s kinda yummy. Notice the tomatoes… lots and lots of potassium!

And I had this for dessert!  Yay!!

Time for me to get out now and get that mileage done!  Happy running!

Summer to me is all about the beach, the swimming, being carefree.

wpid-20151105_143739.jpg See the tops of the trees? Oooo….

According to my training plan, today I’m supposed to tackle this hill… running up and down it multiple times.  I’m praying for rain so all I have to do is intervals on the flat treadmill… 😉

You Tube: It’s what “tweens” watch!

Tween.  What a weird word.  But apparently my child is now a “tween.”  Scary.

Regardless… we are a cable-free house, I’m proud to say.  Thanks to the power of the Roku and the ability to stream, we said goodbye to our massive cable bill and the 500+ channels that had absolutely nothing on them to watch.  The only problem was that our son had to say goodbye to his favorite TV shows that he watched on Disney and Nick.

spongebob

I don’t know how he did it, nor do I remember when, but he soon discovered You Tube, and he replaced Disney and Nickelodeon with those oh-so-famous You Tubers you occasionally hear about.  If I didn’t have a child, I still wouldn’t know what a “You Tuber” was, or what they do, or even why ($$$).  However, to stay involved in his life, I have sat through many mind-numbing videos of these famous You Tubers who make way more money than they should, doing stuff I just don’t get nor understand, albeit I have laughed at quite a few of them.

Following are a few of my favorite You Tubers.  When AJ and his friends get together, they often times will just hang out and watch You Tube.  They ALL know who the good ones are, and if your child has access to You Tube, guaranteed they’re finding a way to watch them too.  You Tube even has its own “unofficial” Wiki site called “Wikitubia.”  (Where was this stuff when I was that age?!)

Dan TDM or The Diamond Minecart:  This guy is 23 years old, creates Minecraft videos and various series, and is probably one of my favorites.  No bad language at all.  He’s really quite entertaining.  If you have a tween, then they are more than likely very involved with the Minecraft game play and might even know about Dan.  He makes around $1.4 million per year and has over 8 million subscribers.

Ryan Higa:  He’s just silly.  He has some older videos from when he first started that are a bit… green.  He’s matured into a skilled film maker with better editing and material.  AJ still gets a kick out of his older videos though and sometimes prefers to watch them over the newer ones, perhaps because Ryan looks closer in age to him than he does nowadays, who knows. Ryan is 25, has over 15 million subscribers and makes about $2.3 million a year.

Jack Septic Eye:  This guy makes me laugh.  He plays all kinds of video games and records himself playing these games.  Of course, we all love it when he messes up because he goes into an absolute rage.  Jack can get a little … explicit … with his language, but perhaps that’s some of his Irish charm.  Another 25-year-old, over 7 million viewers, and makes around $2 million per year.

Ryen Lung created Life After College.  All he does is vlog about his life and his sweet little corgi dog.  AJ loves watching this series.  Because of it, he now wants a corgi when he grows up.  I don’t know the stats on this one, but it can be quite entertaining.  No bad language.

There are two other You Tubers that I find extremely funny, Comedy Shorts Gamer and KSI, from the UK. They’re actually brothers, each have their own channels, but they are extremely R-rated.  A bit vulgar at times, but can be hilarious.  I have no idea how much these two make, but I’m sure it’s a boat-load.

Have you heard of PewDiePie?  He’s the number one You Tuber, 26 years old, over 40 million subscribers and makes $12 million a year.  Playing games.  On You Tube.  And this isn’t even one of AJ’s favorites!!

So what are the morals of this blog?

  1. Actively share in your child’s interests to stay involved in their life no matter how mind-numbing you think the activity is, especially when they hit the scary years… it’s not about you, it’s about them.
  2. I’m in the wrong freaking business.
